I've been frustrated in my efforts to find the whole peppercorns as well. I just picked up my first jar of the ground version though, and it's very flavorful and has the same tingling effect. It's just a bit inconvenient for certain purposes.

TheSpiceHouse.com(based in the US) sells them in whole form if you want to send away for them, but I'm not about to hassle with that.

[...] So, I went out on my terrace and made some photos of my pepper bushes. This Spring I(and my dear friend Aldissima) attended a Flower and Plant market in Este (PD) “Este in Fiore”. I go there almost every year, it is small but very, very interesting. There I found two small pepper plants, one is a japanese pepper (Sansho) [...]

I just came back from the parson who has a quite large Sansho tree which really amazed me. She also has a lots of Myoga and an Ume tree which produces very large Ume. I guess her soil must be well fit for those.

You should be able to find it at most Asian grocery stores. Of course, a Japanese grocery store would have it. If that's not available look for Korean and or perhaps even a Chinese specialty grocery store. Of course you can find it online - http://www.amazon.com/Karashi-hot-mustard-tube-1-52/dp/B0002YEXWA
